Scotty McCreery Wins American Idol

America voted and Scotty McCreery was awarded the winner of the 10th season of American Idol. He won the award over fellow country singer and finalist Lauren Alaina. Together they were the youngest finalists ever with Scotty being 17 years old and Lauren only 16. They were part of a final group that many thought was the most talented group ever on American Idol.

American Idol is a singing talent show that searches the United States for the next big pop star. The show begins the season by having auditions in several major US cities. The top performers are given tickets to attend the show in Hollywood, California. From there the number of contestants is quickly whittled down to the top 12. Then each week fans of the show call in to vote. The lowest vote getter is kicked off until there are just two left for the finale.

This year marked some big changes to American Idol with the exit of harsh judge Simon Cowell and the adding of new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. The show had a different feel, however it still did well in the ratings, proving that maybe fans are more interested in the talent than the judges. Plus Tyler and Lopez added some true pop and rock star credibility that the show never had before.

Scotty McCreery was clearly a fan favorite all season. It started with his audition where his deep country voice blew the judges away and continued all the way to the final. Scotty stayed true to his country roots singing primarily country songs throughout the competition. His confident, but humble personality probably had a lot to do with getting votes as well. After Scotty won, the first thing he did was thank God for his success. Then he went and hugged his family while he sang the final song and his first single I Love You This Big.

McCreery was born and raised in Garner, North Carolina. He was on his high school baseball team. He plays the guitar and a little piano. Scotty has been singing and performing for some time and it showed in his confidence and vocal range.

The sky is the limit for Scotty McCreery from here. We hope he'll do well in the country music scene. We also expect some big things from many of the other American Idol contestants like Lauren Alaina, Casey Abrams, Haley Reinhart, and James Durbin. Back to Kids News
