Places for Families to Visit

Some of our other favorite places for families taking vacations in Washington DC to visit include:

Bureau of Engraving and Printing

Learn how paper money is made. Take a tour that walks you through how every step in making money is important from the special paper, to the ink, to the printing process. The tour is around 30 minutes long and very fun. Kids will enjoy seeing the huge stacks of real money getting printed and made before their eyes. We had a great and entertaining tour guide when we went. The Bureau is located not too far off the National Mall in downtown Washington DC.

Iwo Jima Memorial

A short way from downtown Washington DC, the Marine Corps Memorial is a beautiful and impressive statue honoring our great men and women who fight for our freedom.

Smithsonian National Museum of American History

This sounds like a boring museum, but it may in fact be one of the most interesting to kids. There is, of course, very interesting political historical artifacts here, but also movie, sports, pop music and more. See articles of clothing from famous rock stars, pieces of sets from popular movies and tv shows, and some of the best sports paraphernalia in the world. This is a very interesting museum and there is something for everyone in the family.

Old Post Office Tower

Part of the National Parks Service, the Old Post Office Tower is a good place to get great views of Washington DC.

National Archives

It doesn't take long to walk through the archives and see some of our country's most hallowed documents including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

Discovery Theater

Part of the Smithsonian, the Discovery Theater puts on shows for young audiences. The shows will be at different locations, so be sure to check their schedule.
