Extreme sports encompass an ever-changing array of action sports that usually involve some sort of danger, height, speed, or wild tricks. There are a number of sports that are usually considered extreme including, but not limited to, skateboarding, snowboarding, BMX, and surfing. In many cases, extreme sports are not enjoyed for the competition, but for the rush or excitement of the activity itself. Most extreme sports are individual sports. The competition of an extreme sport usually involves a race between competitors or a judged competition where judges give points for the best tricks or stunts. Often extreme sports are considered newer sports or non-conventional sports
Anytime you engage in an extreme sport, safety should be considered. You can still get the rush of high speed or from falling or from landing an incredible trick, but you need to make sure you understand how to perform the sport safely. Sometimes this involves just wearing a helmet; sometimes it involves working with a trained professional. So make sure you have the recommended safety equipment for whatever extreme sport you are going to try, make sure you have the right training, and always double check the condition of your equipment before you start. Extreme sports and extreme sports competitions are performed all over the world and during all seasons. One of the biggest venues for extreme sports is the X Games. The X Games is a televised series of competitions based around various extreme sports. There is a Winter X Games and a Summer X Games, kind like the Olympics each games focuses on sports for the season. They are each held once a year in different cities. Also, like the Olympics, the X Games awards bronze, silver, and gold medals for each event.
