Star Wars Movie Trilogy
Movie and DVD Review

Rating: PG

"Here is a quick review of the different Star Wars movies. If you have a son that over the age of 6 he likely wants to see the Star Wars movies as all his friends are talking about them. However, all Star Wars episodes are not alike. If you are not familiar with the Star Wars movie series, the original three movies were released in 1977 (Star Wars), 1980 (The Empire Strikes Back), and 1983 (Return of the Jedi). These movies are referred to as episodes 4-6. Then George Lucas released the “prequel” or episodes 1-3. They are Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace (1999), Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones (2002), and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith (2005). They are all rated PG except for Revenge of the Sith, which is rated PG-13."

Star Wars Episodes 4-6 (Rated PG)

"I will go ahead and lump the first three Star Wars into a single bucket. They are all rated PG mostly for Sci-Fi violence and some mild language. The special affects will appear a bit dated, but the story line is good for kids as good does triumph over evil in the end. The main caution I have above the PG rating and the Sci-Fi violence is that the bad guys are pretty intense. Darth Vador with his powers, mask, voice, and heavy breathing can be a bit scary to kids especially when coupled with the dark music. Keep this in mind if your child gets scared easily."

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (Rated PG)

"The special effects become much more realistic. There is a character called Jar Jar Binks that is clearly written in for kids. Also, one of the main characters is child who is an up and coming Jedi named Anakin Skywalker. This makes the movie very appealing to kids, however, the main bad guy (Darth Maul) is very demonic looking and very scary for kids. It makes this movie a tough call."

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (Rated PG)

The tamest of the 7 movies in my opinion. The bad guy is not overly evil or scary. There are a couple of scary monsters at one point.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (Rated-PG13)

No doubt the scariest and most violent of the Star Wars movies. There are very intense images with lots of death and killing. This is the movie where Anakin becomes evil and decides to serve the dark side. There are lots of severed limbs and they show Anakin getting burned up.
