Who doesn't love a dog? They are man's best friend after all. The dog books on this list will help you further appreciate how great, intelligent, and loyal a dog can be.

If you are looking for a good laugh, read Ribsy by Beverly Cleary. You know that any dog that belongs to Ramona the Pest will have some wacky adventures.

Shiloh and Saving Shiloh are classic dog stories that have been enjoyed by children for over twenty years. Shiloh is a Newberry Award Medal winning book that tells the sad story of an abused dog and the boy who finds him. Other tear jerker's on the list include Where the Red Fern Grows and Sounder.

The Incredible Journey tells the story of two dogs and a cat who travel 300 miles to their home. It was later made into an adventure movie by Disney.

Call of the Wild and White Fang by Jack London are almost complimentary books to each other. In Call of the Wild, a dog finds himself on a sled dog team and then ends up learning to live with wolves. In White Fang, an animal that is three fourths wolf and one fourth dog learns how to exist with humans. If you find you like stories about sled dogs then make sure to read Kavik the Wolf Dog by Walk Morey.
