It is a story of a two dogs and a cat that depend on each other to make a long journey back to their family. It has been a popular story with kids since 1961.

The Guardians of Ga'Hoole Series by Kathryn Lasky is a more current popular series about Owls. Lasky really did her research because along with a great story, kids can learn a lot about owls. There are currently fifteen books in this series and also a major motion picture was released in 2011. The Guardians of Ga'Hoole Series is popular with both boys and girls. Girls like the books because they have strong female characters. Boys like the books because they have action and detailed gross descriptions of owls and some of their habits. Everyone can like the story of good banding together versus evil.

Horse lovers are sure to find something on this list to love. The classic story of Black Beauty has been a long time favorite. Set in Victorian England, Black Beauty is the horse's perspective of the world as he goes from owner to owner.
